The settlement of Gnezdovo or Gnyozdovo is located in modern day Russia near Smolensk. It dates back to the 10th century and has a mixture of Slavic, Rusvik and Varangian influences. Helmets like this were worn by the Byzantine Viking Varangian guard as well as by the Vikings in the Baltic Sea area (Rusvik). This helmet is handmade from 1. 6 mm thick
